Snake River Music Gardens His Grace Children's Home Projects
Dear 100 Families Donors,
The last 2 months have brought challenges to His Grace Children’s Home. Food prices in Uganda more than doubled after Russia invaded Ukraine; we learned that most of Africa’s imported sunflower seed oil, wheat and corn was raised in
Ukraine. Overnight we went from covering food costs, progress on capital improvements and putting beehives into the food forest, to running out of food at the orphanage every few days. But Youth in Act - Uganda has the most amazing staff on the ground in Uganda, and YIAU staff includes the eldest orphans; Moreen, His Grace Children's Home's first graduate is doing the Home’s accounting.
Snake River Music Gardens now sends an average of $200/week. We are asking you to kick in seed money for two weeks. According to Waiswa’s and Mulopi’s budgets, to plant Boma Food Forest they need $2500/week for 2 weeks to cover tools, seeds, seedlings, beehives, and put a roof and door on the office.
Further we are asking you to find 35 folks to pledge $100/month x 35 children covers food, personal necessities, bedding, school supplies & uniforms & fees, and regular medical checkups. Arthur and I have sponsored two children because we see as Papá to 35 children Waiswa John Billy has his priorities straight.
More good news: the children and staff of His Grace Children’s Home love to garden! Boma Food Forest will be a safe food-self-reliant children’s garden provide a tree nursery for Mulopi’s Extinct Tree Hub, finding Africa’s "lost" staple food trees, propagating those trees to the neighborhood gardens of Mayuge District to help avert the predicted war-caused famine. With the Food Forest planted, His Grace Children’s Home will be food self-reliant forever. More of each child’s $100/month can go towards books, musical instruments, fiber arts, and preserving the fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices of the food forest.
Permanent culture will eventuate. Boma Food Forest, the template garden where Youth in Act - Uganda shows the way with an incorruptible formula to feed all the people of Africa, and avert famine forever.
Today, His Grace Children’s Home director Wasiwa John Billy writes, “Children will be starting school on Monday 9th May 2022, we need to reach out to donors to help with school supplies. We need to raise $560 so the children can have the school supplies they need to go back to school. This amount does not include school fees.”
Waiswa continues, “Youth in Act - Uganda’s Quickbooks subscription expired and we can't record expenses at the moment.” Quickbooks costs $30/month; we are asking a recurring donor to pledge to cover Waiswa’s administration’s Quickbooks subscription.
Finally, Waiswa reports, “There will an Annual National Agricultural Show in June of 2022. Joseph Mulopi [Youth in Act - Uganda’s agriculturist-beekeeper] would like to bring 13 children and two staff members to this show where there will be a lot to learn and discover in agriculture. Including Joseph that makes a total of 16. The total cost is $250; this includes Registration and Entry Fee, and travel expenses.”
I ask each of you to tell a friend about Snake River Music Gardens where 100% of your charitable donation provides seed money to these diligent Christ-centered people who know exactly what to do with each dollar.
We are so grateful to you for being part of 100 Families. Donor Options: (1) One-time contributions capitalize food self-reliance through Boma Food Forest and Joseph Mulopi’s beekeeping projects. Here in Baker City, as soon as I finish the 501(c)3 application to the IRS, I will offer (all summer) free piano concerts at Baker Heritage Museum 4 days a week (when we’re not in the garden), and a free fiddle show every Friday 11:30 to 1:30 at Elkhorn Custom Meats BBQ out by the smoker, setting out brochures to attract local support for His Grace Children’s Home and for our 4H Music Garden Club. Arthur and I planted trees last Sunday (see picture of Art with muddy knees) and are planning our first Music Garden 4H Club meeting for May.
