2-13. According to the 5th Epochal Revelation who is Melchizedek?

According to The Urantia Book (the 5th Epochal Revelation), "Melchizedek" refers primarily to an entire order of divine Sons in the local universe administration, with the most prominent figure on Urantia (Earth) being Machiventa Melchizedek, who incarnated as an emergency bestowal Son around 1973 years before the birth of Jesus.

        The Melchizedek Order

        • The Melchizedeks are a high order of universe sonship created by the Creator Son (Michael of Nebadon) and the Creative Mother Spirit (the Universe Mother Spirit), in collaboration with the Ancient of Days.
        • They function as the "first order of divine Sons to approach sufficiently near the lower creature life" to minister directly to evolutionary mortals without needing full incarnation in most cases (Paper 35).
        • They are widely known as emergency Sons due to their versatility: they handle extraordinary problems, unusual assignments, and crises across the local universe. They can function on widely divergent levels, even manifesting physically when needed—the only order (along with Life Carriers) with such metamorphic range.
        • Melchizedeks serve in teaching, oversight, emergency ministry, and as receivers/observers on planets. They authored many of the Papers in The Urantia Book itself (e.g., named ones like Mantutia Melchizedek oversaw the Jesus Papers).

Machiventa Melchizedek – The Key Figure on Urantia

        • Machiventa Melchizedek is the specific Melchizedek who volunteered for a rare emergency bestowal incarnation on Urantia.
        • This had happened only six times before in the history of Nebadon (our local universe).
        • Around 1973 B.C. (approximately 4,000 years ago from the book's perspective), due to spiritual regression on the planet after an open rebellion and then a default by previous administrators (e.g., Caligastia, Adam and Eve), Machiventa materialized as a full-grown adult male near Salem (future Jerusalem area) in Palestine.
        • His incarnation was unspectacular—no miraculous birth; he simply appeared and was first seen entering the tent of Amdon, a Chaldean herder.
        • He proclaimed: “I am Melchizedek, priest of El Elyon, the Most High, the one and only God” (Paper 93:2.1).
        • Known as the Sage of Salem or Prince of Salem, he established a center teaching monotheism (one God, the Universal Father), salvation through faith alone (not rituals or sacrifices), and trust in divine favor.
        • He made a covenant with Abraham, promising blessings through his descendants if they followed truth—seen as a great agreement and covenant between divinity and humanity (Paper 93:6.4).
        • His mission preserved monotheistic concepts amid polytheism, influencing Hebrew religion, Egypt (e.g., Ikhnaton's brief monotheism), and Asia via Salem missionaries.
        • He lived over 90 years in the flesh, then dematerialized (disappeared) on the third day after signaling completion, resuming his celestial status.
        • He received a Thought Adjuster (fragment of the Universal Father), which later indwelt Jesus' mind—the only Adjuster to function in two divine-human minds on Urantia.

        Current Status

        • After his bestowal, Machiventa continued as a planetary receiver.
        • Post-Jesus' triumph (A.D. 30), he serves as Vicegerent Planetary Prince of Urantia appointed as such by Jesus after his mission on Urantia was completed giving him full sovereignty over the Universe of his own making.  (Machiventa is now acting representative of Christ Michael, the actual Planetary Prince on Urantia).
        • He remains attached to Urantia's administration from Jerusem (system capital), forever a minister representing Michael as long as Urantia is inhabited—elevated to personal ambassador of Christ Michael status.

In biblical terms, the revelation connects this figure to the mysterious Melchizedek in Genesis 14 (king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who blessed Abraham as he sat at his feet and was taught personally by Machiventa Melchizedek along with 40  other advanced students who went on to inspire all religions with one God.) and Psalm 110 / Hebrews (order of Melchizedek priesthood foreshadowing Jesus). The book expands this dramatically: Machiventa is not eternal like God but a created divine Son who bridged spiritual gaps on Earth, preparing for Michael's (Jesus') bestowal.

Primary details are in Paper 93: Machiventa Melchizedek (the core narrative), with related teachings in Papers 9495 (spread of his gospel) and 35 (order overview). Full text is on spiritualfamily.net or urantia.org or urantiabook.org or truthbook.org and UAI.
