University Students Outreach Program

Wilmat Development Foundation is a Non-Profit Charitable Organization that aims at social innovation through creating new solutions to entrenched problems through social ventures, movements and campaigns. We seek to bring in new ideas for breaking barriers facing millions around the world, delivering more impact, for less money, with greater potential for sustainable scale. Inspired by the venture of social, leadership and economic-empowerment experience, we seek to use an evidence-based working model to test ideas, gather evidence of what works, find failures quickly and cheaply, without long-term commitments, and continue to support only proven solutions.

Youth vulnerability is becoming an African crisis, according to the UNDP report in 2018 on global multidimensional poverty index reported that Sub Saharan Africa has the most social- economically challenged youths in the world. This was also reflected by the 2016 population statistics that indicates an increase in youth social-economic vulnerability. Such a crisis is characterized by rampant recidivism, unemployment, lawlessness among others.  In Uganda today, 35% of the youth population are students and almost 50% lack formal employment thus a crisis. It should be noted that the government and other international actors have embarked on policies and mechanisms to address this crisis however its logical conclusion is still wanting.

From a detailed baseline community survey on vocational hands on education that was conducted in February to March 2019 where Students and Parents/guardians were identified to fulfill the objectives under which the foundation intends to create a nexus between Uganda’s education system and the employment sector. The major goal of the survey was to assess the validity of hands on vocational training and its relevance towards the education sector and promotion of self -sustainability through the creation of income generating activities. The information collected acted as a bridge towards the establishment of the University Outreach Program tailored towards “Shaping the Mindset Of Learners Towards Employment”. From the First Pilot Public lecture conducted at Kyambogo University on 22nd March 2019 where over 350 students trained and inspired to take on the mantel of being resilient and confident with the right skills in the job market.

Due to the high demands for the University outreach program, Wilmat Development Foundation and her partners have deemed it necessary to continuously prepare University students by creating an enabling, practical and safer job market spaces after University.

Wilmat Development Foundation is organizing another round of the University Out Reach Program at various Universities in Uganda, the major reason behind this is "Shaping the mindset of learners towards employment". Did you know? The urgent need for employment among African youth is clear as between 10 to 12 million youth enter the workforce each year but only 3.1 million jobs are created leaving most of the youth un- or under-employed, according to the World

This is an opportunity for us to come together and air out our views about the major central positions to Uganda's education and employment sector.

This Outreach program is named the Transformed Minds Forum, where young people will come and meet various employers who are participating in this whole program, we are going to be discussing a number of educational development issues and career identification or development ideas, preaching the word of God among other activities. We are aiming at Spreading the word and meet with other stakeholders and educational experts.

We therefore request for your support financially so that we can reach out to many students in Uganda
