6. THE PROFIT MOTIVE

  ^71:6.1 Present-day profit-motivated economics is doomed unless profit motives can be augmented by service motives. Ruthless competition based on narrow-minded self-interest is ultimately destructive of even those things which it seeks to maintain. Exclusive and self-serving profit motivation is incompatible with Christian ideals -- much more incompatible with the teachings of Jesus.

As a shocking new report finds that many coastal cities will be flooded by rising sea levels by 2050, Chile’s President Sebastián Piñera announced Wednesday that the U.N. Climate Summit in Santiago has been canceled. Anti-inequality protests have entered their third week in the country with protesters calling for the Piñera government to resign. The U.N. said it is now looking for an alternative venue for the annual climate meetings. Meanwhile, a dire new report has warned 300 million people are at risk from rising sea levels, with the most vulnerable populations concentrated in the Global South. According to the study published in Nature Communications, global sea levels are expected to rise between two and seven feet or possibly more, with some coastal cities being wiped off the map. We speak with Harjeet Singh, the global lead on climate change for Action Aid who is based in New Delhi, India; and Benjamin Strauss, co-author of the study in Nature Communications and CEO and chief scientist at Climate Central.

Wilmat Development Foundation-WDF in partnership with Anthill Foundation jointly work on education projects at all levels as a way of impacting economic and social development in Uganda. The coalition identified the essence of quality education as fundamental and important for its relevance is towards the development of the economy. As a result, WDF and Anthill Foundation have identified the need to work with students to transform and prepare them for and after graduation through holding mentorship clinics, public lectures and trainings in schools and institutions of higher learning, in line with the Government of Uganda vision 2040. 

WDF carried out a survey to to assess the validity of hands on vocational training and its relevance towards the education sector and its aims tailored towards promoting self -sustainability. The results show that the students can not do without hands on skills in order to live sustainably; hence the University outreach program. 
This program took place on the 14/9/2019 for Kyambogo University and 4/10/2019 for MUBS, with various speakers and partners taking part. Over 500 students were reached through this program and impacted positively. Many reported that they needed more of such training to equip them better for life challenges during and after campus, under the THEME: "Unlocking their self-potential towards investment".

Renowned author and journalist James Howard Kunstler is not sure there is going to be a 2020 Presidential Election.  Kunstler predicts, “When all is said and done, I am not convinced there is enough there to convict President Trump of anything.  At the same time, there is probably going to be a lot of legal actions brought against the people who started this coup against him, and that’s going to be extremely disturbing to the Left.  I think one of the possibilities is we may not have a 2020 election.   In some way or another, the country may be so disorderly that we can’t hold an election.  There may be so much strife that we cannot handle the legal questions around holding the election, and it may be suspended.  I don’t know what that means, but I am very impressed of the disorder that we are already in.  It’s more of a kind of mental disorder between the parties, but it could turn into a lot of kinetic disorder on the ground and a lot of institutional failure.”

They seek the bases of scientific understanding, using the tools of modern physics, and fashion theories that provide unified and testable models of the evolution of the universe from its creation to the present, and into the future. What's All the Excitement About?

These are some of the current research frontiers that challenge and excite cosmologists. The main body of this report discusses current work on these issues in more depth. But before that, it describes some of the key questions that Social Scientists are trying to answer, such as “The Crisis of Civilization” within the Human Epic. These give a broader perspective on the long-range goals of cosmology research.
The Cosmic Questions

Spanning enormous ranges of time, space, radiation wavelength, matter density, and temperature, cosmology research as well as Spiritual research (like most science) must be subdivided in order to match the scales of human activity and instrumentation. Individual researchers may work in a relatively small area of the subject, yet each has in sight a set of large questions that his or her results might address. It is the need to find answers to questions like the ones contained within these briefings that motivates the Spiritual Cosmologist.
