We are the first generation of human beings to glimpse the full sweep of cosmic history, from the universe’s origin to the silent, stately flight of galaxies through the intergalactic night. Humankind continues its own journey into the future with a new depth of understanding and appreciation for the forces that shape our destiny.

This Cosmic research briefing format is intended to provide updating and information to teachers, leaders, program managers and policy makers on the opportunities for spiritual scientific advances in a frontier field. The field of Spiritual Cosmology is an exciting frontier where astronomy, nuclear physics, and astrophysics meet with Spiritual and Mindal energy systems, and where we may be able to discover how the universe came to be as itis today.
What Is Cosmology?

Cosmologists work to understand how the universe came into being, why it looks as it does now, and what the future holds. 

• 3:5.8.3. Is hope—the grandeur of trust—desirable? Then human existence must constantly be confronted with insecurities and recurrent uncertainties.
• 3:5.15.Throughout the universe, every unit is regarded as a part of the whole. Survival of the part is dependent on co-operation with the plan and purpose of the whole,
• 3:5.9.4. Is faith—the supreme assertion of human thought—desirable? Then must the mind of man find itself in that troublesome predicament where it ever knows less than it can believe.

6. THE PROFIT MOTIVE

  ^71:6.1 Present-day profit-motivated economics is doomed unless profit motives can be augmented by service motives. Ruthless competition based on narrow-minded self-interest is ultimately destructive of even those things which it seeks to maintain. Exclusive and self-serving profit motivation is incompatible with Christian ideals -- much more incompatible with the teachings of Jesus.

  ^71:6.2 In economics, profit motivation is to service motivation what fear is to love in religion. But the profit motive must not be suddenly destroyed or removed; it keeps many otherwise slothful mortals hard at work. It is not necessary, however, that this social energy arouser be forever selfish in its objectives.

  ^71:6.3 The profit motive of economic activities is altogether base and wholly unworthy of an advanced order of society; nevertheless, it is an indispensable factor throughout the earlier phases of civilization. Profit motivation must not be taken away from men until they have firmly possessed themselves of superior types of nonprofit motives for economic striving and social serving -- the transcendent urges of superlative wisdom, intriguing brotherhood, and excellency of spiritual attainment.
