Gabula Swaibu's Biography

Gabula Swaibu was born on 9th December 2011 to Gabula Isma and Hajjara. Hajjara was in her second marriage with Swaibu’s father who also passed on in 2013 due to HIV/AIDS. Hajjara was left with Swaibu to raise on her own and yet she was totally dependent on the husband for survival. Without supplies and support relocated to her home village to live with her mother. In the village, she worked as a cleaner (janitor) in the local hospital until her health also started to deteriorate since she is suffering from AIDS as well. This made her totally weak and could not work anymore after she was bedridden for 2 years. We met the family in our community outreaches and prayed for the family. On return, we saw the need to help the child who were living a hopeless life. We have helped Hajjara overcome her stigma and her health is getting better now and she can do simple tasks to exercise her body. Swaibu stays with us at MCDCC so we can monitor his health and social welfare.Hajjara gave her life to Christ and we pray for her quick recovery so she can live her life.

Babirye Imelda's Biography

Babirye Imelda is a twin and was born on the 9th November 2010 to Daudi Mugenyi and Kisakye Maureen in a dysfunctional family where her mother left after continued marital fights and got married to another man.

The second twin didn't live long due to a weak body immune system due to sickle cell anaemia. The surviving twin Imelda was introduced to a new family with the mom where she was not welcomed. Imelda was in a vulnerable state because she lacked anyone to care for her as her mother was not able to fully support her in this marriage. The mother died two years later and this made her stay in this family impossible. She was picked up by her auntie who was willing to keep her as she helps her out with the household chores but without going to school because she had no money.  It’s her auntie who introduced her to MCDCC when she visited our offices to request for help for her niece whose life was going as it should. We are now looking after her and she is a loving girl. She wants to become a singer in future.

Kagende Juliet's Biography

Kagende Juliet, was born on 19th June 2010 and her misfortunes started when they lost their father the late Kalebi Ben who was the sole provider of the family. The sudden death left the family shattered leaving the Lucy (widow) with 2 children to look after.

With no help from the immediate relatives, the unemployed widow was living with the grandmother to the children who also had no support to help them since they were also suffering with nothing to eat and living in a very small mud house. We were told the father to the children died from unknown disease that came abruptly. MCDCC were able to adopt Juliet leaving the mother with the youngest because of the tender age and fragility. They all lived in a small house with limited sleeping resources and shared a single mattress and blanket. We took them in and have played our role in changing their stigma and view to life. Juliet is now settled and living happily and his health is normal. ​

Ayebale Ruth's Biography

Ayebale Ruth, was born on the 12th September 2008 to Magyezi and Namubiru. She is the sixth child in the family of 7 children with the same mother and different fathers.

The father was a drunkard who almost beat Ruth’s mother every day and breaking things in the small house they lived in. He never provided funds to buy anything at home say food, clothes and other basics.

The mother became the sole provider of everything at home from her little income she could get from selling the sweet bananas on the roads. While at it in his violent spells, this negligent father pretended to have been demon possessed in the aftermath. This specific abusive father who later abandoned them leaving her as a single mother. Namubiru had at first married two different men who all died.

The first one died in a car accident leaving her with one. More sorrow struck the same family when Ruth’s only sibling also died of severe malaria in his early days in that same year. It was tragic occurrence of deaths in the same family

Kwagala Daphine's Biography

Apio Scovia was born on 07th November 2007 to an extended dysfunctional family. The father Isabirye was a local leader and had many wives and so many children.

The parents parted ways when Scovia was 4 years old and remarried a year later leaving Scovia with the grand parent who is very poor and sickly. Scovia is a child that has been raised by the community eating and drinking from the neighboring families.

With this she also ended up with a group of other kids who always did petty tasks for a coin. They would spend the day selling mangoes and looking for scrap (old metal pieces) for sale. Her story was about to change when she came selling fruits to us on our visit to the community. We were curious to know why she was not in school and yet it was school time. She was all in tears as she narrated her story and told us how much she loved to go to school like the others. We followed her home to a grass thatched house where met her grandmother to understand better the story.

Pato Banton foundation Africa is now responsible for Scovia's life sending her to school and offering her shelter as well as some assistance to the grandmother.
