A Group Study and Reflection on the Living Vision of Truth

  140:6.12 "The lamp of the body is the eye; if, therefore, your eye is generous, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is selfish, the whole body will be filled with darkness. If the very light which is in you is turned to darkness, how great is that darkness!"

 

Introduction

Throughout the Fifth Epochal Revelation, Jesus repeatedly refers to the “eye of spiritual faith”—that inner power of perception which enables the soul to see beyond material appearances and grasp the living realities of divine purpose.

This “eye” is the organ of true understanding—not of the intellect but of the spirit-born self, illuminated by the Thought Adjuster and the Spirit of Truth.

Faith, as the revelators teach, is more than belief. It is the experiential vision of truth—a way of seeing with the soul, trusting the unseen Father, and interpreting life through divine values rather than temporal appearances.

 

Study Summary — Thematic Insights

1. The Vision of the Soul

The eye of spiritual faith reveals God’s presence where the material mind sees only circumstance. It is through this vision that mortals recognize divine personality, perceive purpose amid confusion, and discern goodness even in hardship.

2. The Function of Faith Perception

Faith transforms the events of daily life into spiritual growth. It connects the finite experience of time with the eternal meaning of love and truth.

3. The Growth of Faith Vision

Every experience—joyful or difficult—can become an opportunity to anoint our inner sight, to see as the Father sees: with love, patience, and purpose.

Learning to live by faith is learning to see reality as divine, even within the shadows of imperfection.

Psalm 51:16-17, “For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart - These, O God, You will not despise.”
Psalm 40:6, “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.”
And also:
Jeremiah 7:22-23, “For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices. But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’”
Matthew 9:13, “But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
In conducting the Passover Supper Ceremony, Jesus always intentionally did not include animal food – like lamb meat because he abstained from the slaughtering of animals. (The Jews upheld the spilling of blood as a requirement for the forgiveness of sins or the atonement of sins). He always opted for a bloodless passover ceremony. This practice and attitude of Jesus shows clearly that God the Father does not require blood sacrifice in order to forgive sins. Jesus even forgave people their sins before he died. His blood wasn’t spilled then! For example in Matthew 9:2, “Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.’”
For the forgiveness of our evil deeds/sins/iniquity => for our salvation, God simply asks for repentance from the heart; a broken and a contrite heart. Jesus came on the scene and made it all clearer: He revealed that when we get an understanding of and embrace the LOVE of God in such a way that we surrender our all to God, and allow our hearts to forgive others, inasmuch as we seek God's forgiveness, therein is our salvation. This process allows us to see God as a loving Father and to see other people as our brothers and sisters. We also acquire the faith to believe that our eternal future is secured in God (or in God’s plan).
For our salvation, there's no need for animal sacrifice; the sacrifice of the village King's first son or the sacrifice of an innocent girl or man captured (kidnapped) by the King's guards. And of course, no need for God to sacrifice an innocent Jesus. Stop and think for a minute: To punish an innocent man for the deeds of wicked or guilty offenders.....is it justice?
To understand the, “Gospel of Salvation”, we must look at what Jesus did and taught about SALVATION. Our major focus must be, "The gospel according to Jesus". And not the, "The gospel according to Paul". Paul's version of the gospel is mixed up. It has Jesus' version in it but mixed up with the olden Jewish version of atonement and with his own concocted version of "the fall of man", "the original sin" - of the spiritual death of everybody from birth due to the fall of Adam, the first man. By the way, we know Adam was not the first man. Before Adam and Eve came, there were Andon and Fonta. After Cain killed Abel, he relocated to another place and married there. That tells us clearly that there were humans living in other communities outside the Garden of Eden. And thank God for the Urantia Revelations (The Urantia Book). The first couple (Andon and Fonta) walked on Earth about 1 million years ago. Adam and Eve came about 38,000 years ago. Please, do the math. 
Jesus never taught or endorsed the atonement doctrine “as a must requirement for the forgiveness of sins.” He chose to go through the death on the cross, knowing fully well that one of the blessings that would accrue would be the final liberation of ‘many’ from blood sacrifice. Hence he said in Matthew 26:28, “For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” Take note he said, “My blood… which is shed for many…” Shed for “many”. He didn’t say, “Shed for all”. He knew there were and would be “many” who would fervently cling to atonement/blood sacrifice. His death on the cross took care of those people - the “many”. It helped to deal a great and final blow to the barbarism of blood sacrifice. He became, as it were, the last sacrifice. But he didn’t have to do it. It was not a must requirement for salvation. ...and a prophet Isaiah, foresaw the sufferings of our Jesus... 
Salvation comes as a result of an understanding appreciation of God’s powerful divine love - be it at the cross or outside the cross (the cross apart). For example, there are other inhabited planets, where the people there (so-called aliens) get saved and they know nothing about any cross. But the love of God is available. Paul's or Christianity's doctrine of salvation is strange and impractical in many other inhabited planets. Would Jesus have to go there and die again? Or who is going to travel there to share the atonement doctrine? How are they going to get there? :) However, Jesus' salvation message (mentioned in an earlier paragraph above) is applicable to "all" here on Earth and in every other planet inhabited by mortal intelligence. And there are lots of them. Go figure! :) 
...Also, Jesus never taught the original sin doctrine (the spiritual death of every child due to the fall of Adam and Eve). Even the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke to a large extent, show that Jesus didn't teach all that. Our dear brother Paul and his associates came up with all that! And mixed them up with Jesus' gospel of, "You are sons and daughters of God. The Kingdom of God is within you. God’s love and salvation are obtained by grace through faith and faith alone; not of works; not of blood sacrifice." The atonement doctrine is a man-made doctrine. We may say, "It is not of God. It is not of the Devil. It is of man." 
By the way, a major reason Paul taught the atonement doctrine (and in some places, promoted it AS A MUST REQUIREMENT) was to win over many Jews to his Christianity. But of course, history shows that he did not succeed. For the most part, the Jewish community blatantly refused to be swayed by Paul’s salvation message. Our great brother, Paul did a lot to promote spiritual growth and enlightenment. Yes! But his diluted and mixed up message of salvation has created a confusion that persists to this day. It will take some time but this planet would mature to the fullness of the knowledge of the truth. Amen.

(However, it is noteworthy to say that CMC does both.)
 
The Urantia Revelations make two things very clear:
1) Personal, private ministry ('as you pass by') - your character and your one-on-one interactions proclaim truth, beauty and goodness, transforming lives.
2) Public ministry - proactively taking the gospel to people on a massive scale, from city to city, country to country. 


We see both in Melchizedek's Earth life. We see both in Jesus' Earth life. Jesus encourages us to do the same today. People who are only focused on private ministry should not tear down those who are focused on both private and public. We are a team! 

The Master sent out Kingdom believers TO PROACTIVELY GO TO VILLAGES AND CITIES TEACHING AND PREACHING THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM... How can we effectively take the teachings of Jesus to every part of the planet - reaching thousands and millions, at a time, if we do not engage in some form of "conscious, calculated organization"? 
The Master commanded us to take his teachings all over the world. He led by example by sending out believers to different places to reach out to others; to preach and teach - publicly. Jesus had an "organized movement" in place. Different people had different tasks. For example, Matthew Levi was a fundraiser. Judas Iscariot was their treasurer. Simon Peter was an eloquent spokesman - preacher and teacher... There was a sustainable structure in place. 
To take the gospel to villages, cities and countries all over the world would require SOME (or A FEW) faith-liberated individuals to put in 20, 30 or even 50 hours of work per week. It requires a well coordinated and sustained effort. It requires planning, time and money. It requires setting up a structure - a 'movement'; an 'organization'; a 'church' or whatever is needed to get the job done. Let's not deceive ourselves. There's really practically no other way in this day and age.
 
A key objective for us is to clearly understand the duties and responsibilities placed on us, by the Fifth Epochal Revelation or the FER (The Urantia Book) and also those placed on us by the gospel message. They are greatly interrelated but they are not exactly the same. The FER may experience 'slow growth' but the gospel message does not have to. The majority of humans on Earth may not be ready for the FER but they are ready for the gospel teachings. Lack of understanding of this vital fact is a major reason why we are not doing so well - globally, in obeying the Master’s command. 

 

Some readers frown at Public Ministries because of the abuse they see amongst some tele-evangelists and some Church or Religious leaders. These things should not and must not make us reject "organizations" and public outreach work. Some humans may abuse power, authority, finances, etc but that does not mean the WORK ITSELF should not be done.
 
We have a great book - the Urantia Book, filled with nuggets to equip us with wisdom, knowledge and understanding. If any group of people should do better, then I think we ought to be that group. I see nothing to fear or be worried about. The Master knew quite well the fallibility of humans yet out of faith and trust, he commissions them to work under an umbrella as an organized team to do Public Outreach Work. With the knowledge we have, we should be able to do better than our 'stigmatized' tele-evangelist brothers and sisters... ...But should we fail, we learn, we grow, we evolve. We get wiser. There's really no other way.

AYO'S PERSONAL REFLECTION ON THE TEACHING OF UNSELFISH SERVICE IN THE KINGDOM

 

Reading through the 5th Epochal Revelation Paper 140 of The Urantia Book, "The Ordination of the Twelve," I was struck by how it presents Jesus' instructions to his apostles not as rigid doctrines, but as living principles for spiritual growth.

One teaching that really stood out to me is the idea that true greatness comes through becoming a minister and server to others. It's a complete reversal of what we often chase in everyday life—status, recognition, or power. Instead, the paper emphasizes that in the Father's kingdom, the path to fulfillment lies in unselfish service.


The key passage that captures this is:

"Whosoever would become great in my Father’s kingdom shall become a minister to all; and whosoever would be first among you, let him become the server of his brethren" (140:1.6).

This isn't about forced humility or self-denial for its own sake. It's presented as a natural outcome of recognizing our sonship with the divine—understanding that we're all part of a spiritual family where helping others elevates everyone, including ourselves. The Urantia revelation frames this as evolving from mere servitude to joyful ministry, reflecting the way the universe operates on love and mutual upliftment.


What makes this teaching feel so relevant today is how it challenges the ego-driven world we live in. In my own life, I've often caught myself prioritizing personal goals—career advancements, social media validation, or just getting ahead. But when I pause and think about moments where I've genuinely served without expecting anything back, like volunteering time to help a friend through a tough period or contributing to a community project, there's this quiet sense of expansion inside. It's not dramatic; it's subtle, like a deeper alignment with something larger.

The paper suggests this is how we grow toward perfection: by shifting focus from "what can I get?" to "how can I give?" It ties into the broader Urantia idea of the kingdom as an inner reality, where real progress happens through daily choices to embody divine love.

This perspective has shifted how I approach relationships and work. Instead of seeing interactions as transactions, I try to view them as opportunities for ministry—listening more deeply, offering support without strings attached. It's not always easy; old habits die hard.

But the teaching reassures that this service isn't about losing yourself; it's about discovering your true self as a faith-son in an evolving universe. In a time when burnout and isolation are common, embracing this could foster more genuine connections and personal peace.
 

Overall, this teaching from Paper 140 feels like a practical blueprint for living with purpose. It reminds me that greatness isn't measured by achievements, but by the light we bring to others through unselfish acts. It's inspired me to be more intentional in small ways, trusting that these ripple out into the eternal adventure the Urantia Book describes.

What happened to, "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you?" Where did you see Jesus or Paul praying for the death of their enemies, persecutors or haters? Who made you a Judge and Arbiter over others - whether they live or die?
What happened to, "God prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies"? It doesn't say, "in the absence of my enemies". It says, "in the presence of my enemies". A reason for this is so they can see the goodness of God in your life and the error of their ways - which can lead them to repentance...
Praying for the death of your fellow human beings is rooted in fear, hatred, revenge and unforgiveness. Wake up your heart to LOVE and FORGIVENESS. God is the Great Judge. He gives life. And He determines when a life should be terminated. Not you! Stay in your lane!

Why pray for the death of others? 
People have to make use of the appropriate words - most especially in an enlightened age. Highly spiritually matured and knowledgeable people choose their words carefully. It is far better to use words that make it clear that you desire the evil machinations of your enemies to be destroyed instead of speaking as though you yearn for the individual human being to physically die. ....and going about the place decreeing physical death on people, left, right and center... Such fake decrees cannot be honored by an Almighty, all powerful, all knowing and at the same time, all loving God.

A brother, Emeka Odoemene puts it quite nicely, "God is a loving Father and He is Father to both the righteous and the sinner. We, earthly parents would not kill one (or some) of our children because he oppresses other children. So, people should stop expecting God to answer their prayers to kill other humans for some wicked acts. He owns all lives and would take them when he wants." 

"Suffer not a witch to live."
That instruction was based on the level of enlightenment of the people of that day - Moses' day and era. The Paradise Father does not see that as "His Word". Another example is: "An eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth." And you know Jesus made it clear that it is not the Word of God or that our Heavenly Father doesn't want us to implement that. But Moses and his crew taught that. Knowledge has increased. A greater enlightenment has come. We should know better. We are guided by the perfect law of liberty and love. Vengeance belongs to God. Let Him do His thing.

Here, brother Larry talks about very important roles Dr. Lena Sadler, wife of Dr. William Samuel Sadler played in the process of the delivery of the Urantia Book. 
 
Larry Mullins tells us that it was Lena Sadler who started the Forum in 1923 after the group have had about 20 years working experience with the Sleeping Subject [SS]. Initially Dr. William Sadler was not convinced of the authenticity of the materials until 1936 when the Jesus Papers came out and a revelation of the personality types of the 12 Apostles finally pulled him in completely. Several times, he wanted to abandon the project but Lena kept him at it. 
 
Funny enough men are always given all the credits. We hear so much of Dr. William Samuel Sadler. Little is said of Dr. Lena Sadler. Hahaha.... Kudos to Lena! Kudos to womanhood! :)

Commentary: 
 
As we reflect on the process involved in the delivery of the Urantia Book, Paper 77, Section 8, Verse 5 and sub-verse 3 comes to mind:



UB77:8.5, "The United Midwayers of Urantia are organized for service with the planetary seraphim in accordance with innate endowments and acquired skills, in the following groups: ...

--> 3. Contact personalities. In the contacts made with the mortal beings of the material worlds, such as with the subject through whom these communications were transmitted, the midway creatures are always employed. They are an essential factor in such liaisons of the spiritual and the material levels."



Some questions come to mind:

Various Celestial Personalities made contact with the brother (the "Sleeping Subject") through whom the revelations were uttered. Midwayers played very important roles to make sure this "contact" and the delivery of the messages were successful. If it happened then, can it not happen today? Is it not happening today, through some people in the exact same manner or in a different but related manner? Why not?



We are told that, "In the contacts made with the mortal beings of the material worlds..." This implies that such contacts are a continuous, factual reality on the planet. Messages are continuously being delivered through "liaisons of the spiritual and the material levels". And this can occur through various means or methods. The method of the Sleeping Subject is just one of many.



A very important attribute of a sincere and honest truth seeker is, just like Jesus, to develop the keen ability to identify truth regardless of its source or method of delivery; to bravely look at a "message" and allow the Spirit of Truth, Thought Adjuster (God within) and/or Holy Spirit to minister to him or her. Such a truth seeker is not in a hurry to accept anything and not in a rush to criticize or condemn anything simply because the mode or method of delivery is unfamiliar. You have a "truth bell" within to help you along the way. Please, let's ponder on this for a minute... Thank you.

Morning Rituals:

The day often begins with the soft glow of sunlight peeking through curtains, heralding a fresh start. Establishing a morning routine can set a positive tone. Whether it’s savoring a steaming cup of coffee or meditating quietly, these moments of solitude can cultivate mindfulness. Engaging in activities that nourish the soul—like writing in a journal or practicing yoga—can serve as a gentle reminder of our intentions.

Connecting with Others:

As our day unfolds, interactions with loved ones or colleagues shape our experiences. A simple greeting, a warm smile, or a shared laugh can create bonds, fostering a sense of community. These connections are vital, as they remind us that we are not alone in our journey. Embracing meaningful conversations allows us to deepen relationships, truly understanding and supporting one another.

But you still have some of the ways and culture of country A. Nevertheless, you are now advancing, taking in more and more of country B's mindset, culture, beliefs, etc. It is not a very easy journey. It is not a piece of cake. There are struggles. But you are being nudged and led and assisted by an unseen hand, taking you closer and closer to the better country, better place. There is effort, struggle, conflict, faith, determination, love, loyalty, and progress.

Now imagine you have reached the borders (borderland). You are on the verge of a great achievement. You are about to succeed in totally and completely giving up the mindset, ways, culture, beliefs, etc of country A and wholeheartedly and completely embracing those of country B. You are at a crossroad. If you succeed in getting into country B, you would never ever be able to go back to country A. Backsliding or changing your mind becomes impossible - practically impossible. You continue to make major decisions, big decisions in this respect. You are at the brink of total self destruction and complete soul reconstruction. More powers and maturity come to you to enable you align your heart and mind completely to practically doing the will of God - to FULLY and EASILY implementing the culture of country B, without any more struggles. THE DAYS OF STRUGGLING ARE ABOUT TO BE OVER - completely over. 

If you really succeed here, if you cross the borderland, you become like a superhuman - it is like attaining the first circle of cosmic consciousness. It's like being fully qualified for Thought Adjuster fusion (a.k.a. 'rapture' or Elijah translation/Enoch translation). Of course, fusion can be delayed to allow you continue your life and work here on Earth.


You become completely like Jesus - no negative ego whatsoever. You are dead to sin, self, pride, etc. You are now a manifestation of Jesus in all totality. You have crossed the BORDERLAND. Hallelujah! Glory to God! Amen.

Transitioning or maturing out of the "borderland" is quite an uphill task! Some people have experienced emotional upheavals... Victory lies in boldly holding onto God's hands in FAITH; spending time in prayers and meditation; allowing for great changes to occur on your inside; responding willfully to the divine outworking on your inside - reflecting on your challenges and co-creating/seeing the victory or God's desired outcome through faith, prayers, meditation.... Declare, speak forth and see the new "you", the more matured place, etc you desire to be... 

Some people reject deep or higher level spirituality because they don't want to summon the courage, guts and faith to deal with the borderland. Going through the borderland is just inevitable. Enjoy the ride! Your TA (Thought Adjuster, God within, the Inner Voice) would guide you. May the 'force' be with you! Hahaha...

Another way I look at borderland is this: the final struggle between the flesh and the spirit - the arena, close to spiritland, where the two natures of man square it all out - the final struggle, the last fight, to tip man over completely to the spirit realm - higher spiritual maturity and freedom - 'spiritland', where you are completely aligned with the WILL and WAY of God. 

Borderland' is completely eradicated when you attain your own individual era of Light and Life. Jesus attained this while on Earth, in the flesh. He was indeed the greatest mortal (as 'son of man') ever to have lived! His was an outstandingly remarkable feat!! Hahaha....

In this present planetary dispensation, for a vast, vast majority of us, this very same feat would be accomplished in the heavenly realms (in the Mansion Worlds) - after the animal nature (or mark of the beast) is fully and completely metamorphosed into true spirit nature or even partial spirit nature (i.e. higher levels of the morontial nature) - I believe… 

The Mansion Worlds (a.k.a. "many Mansions" that Jesus talked about when he was here) are Heavenly Places (Planets) of unfathomable joy, love, peace, etc and also of learning, growth, major decisions, big, big decisions - "decision-choices".... Realms of testings or challenges to fully and wholeheartedly choose the Father's plan in ways that allow for higher soul growth, 'earthshaking' soul transformation, soul ascension, unlimited purging of every and all things carnal, animalistic, bestial... 

One thing is certain, the closer we get to God, the easier it all becomes. The Urantia Book [UB] puts it nicely: Everyday a righteous man lives, it becomes easier to do the right thing or to do good (or to obey the divine will) {paraphrase}.
